Matecho dart frogs are a locality of Dendrobates tinctorius (dying dart frog) native to French Guyana. Tinctorius are one of the largest of all dart frogs, and matecho are the largest of all the different varieties of this species. Matecho can easily get to 3inches body size, a decent size for a dart frog! They are a good beginner species of dart frog and are considered one of the hardiest and most adaptable in their care requirements. They thrive on a mixed diet of small insects including small crickets, fruit flies, tropical woodlice and adults can even eat hatchling locust.
