Hides
Reptiles require places to hide in their enclosure so that
they feel secure in their environment, without hiding places many reptiles may
refuse to feed or become stressed. It is recommended that there should be a
minimum of 2 hides per enclosure one at the warm side and one at the cool side
so that your pet reptile does not have to choose between feeling secure and
being at their preferred temperature. Some reptile hides are designed to have
damp moss or similar substrate placed inside them, this provides what is known
as a shedding cave or shedding refuge, this is essential for some species to be
able to shed their skin properly. The higher ambient humidity within the
shedding cave facilitates the animal’s shedding process, an example of a
reptile that requires a shedding cave would be a leopard gecko.
