Eastern Tiger Salamanders (Ambystoma tigrinum) are native to the North Eastern USA. The largest of the Mole salamanders they are are exclusively terrestrial as adults but spend a lot of time digging around in the soil and leaf litter where they will hunt for small insects, worms and slugs. Its not often that you can say an amphibian has lots of character and its own unique personality but I assure you that you can with these as they have it in abundance. They may look slow and bumbling but present them with food and you realise they are an apex predator in their own tiny ecosystems. These are in the same family as axolotls but are kind of the terrestrial equivalent. If you are looking for a relatively low maintenance, low temperature companion then these may be just the animal for you.
