Baird's rat snakes are a medium sized north american ratsnake species that are in the same genus as Corn Snakes and are equally as hardy and easy to care for; making them an excellent alternative as a first snake. As hatchlings they are grey/brown in colour with blotches which virtually disappear by the time they reach adulthood where most specimens are red/orange and have four darker stripes which run the length of the entire body.
