The Turquoise anole is endemic to Jamaica, but has also been introduced to Bermuda. It is one of 7 native anoles in Jamaica.

Their colouration is usually emerald with bright blue legs and a vibrant orange dewlap, a violet tail and a grey underside. Females have less prominent colours but they are still considerably bright.

Interestingly, these lizards are capable of colour change due to something known as chromatophores & melanocytes which are underneath the anoles skin. The chromatophores are responsible for its usual colouration, but the melanocytes contain the pigment melanin, which responds to changes in the lizards hormones. These cells can expand and mask the ordinary pigment cells, resulting in a change to a darker coloration, thus the anole is capable of changing its hue from bright blue, to varying shades of brown or almost completely black when stressed. They can also change only half of their body colour.

The Anolis graham are often found higher up and like to feed on arboreal insects. They are ambush predators, but will also eat ground dwelling insects and have been observed feeding from nectar of blossoming flowers.

These are not defensive lizards and will usually opt to flee rather than fight, but they will show their dewlap & change colour when feeling threatened. They are however very territorial towards other lizards and should be housed individually.
