Springtails (Collembola species) are soil isopods that measure approximately 1mm in total length. Springtails are an excellent option for a bioactive vivvarium as they serve as vivarium janitors, consuming organic waste materials.  Springtails also will reproduce in the vivarium creating a constant supply of them. They make an additional source of food for some small vivarium inhabitants, such as dart frogs.
