Horned frogs (Ceratophrys spp) also called "Pac Man" frogs due to their resemblance to the 80s arcade character are native to Central and South America. They are opportunistic feeders that are often considered to be a mouth on legs they are able to eat prey almost the same size as themselves. Inhabiting temperate rainforest they thrive in high humidity. Often remaining motionless for days at a time they are true ambush predators. Due to inactivity care must be take not to overfeed these frogs in captivity.

Horned frogs are one of the easiest species of amphibian to keep and make an ideal first pet frog due to this. Horned frogs are available in an astounding variety of different colours/ morphs. Ornate Horned Frogs (Ceratophrys ornata) also known as the Argentine horned frog are a mid-sized horned frog species reaching a maximum of around 6in (15cm) for females. As the name would suggest this tends to be one of the most naturally colourful Horned Frog Species (excluding all the selectively bred morphs of Cranwell’s Horned Frog). Due to their Inactivity they don't require huge amounts of space and will thrive in a naturalistic or bioactive enclosure.
