The mourning gecko is found widely distributed across islands in the south pacific. They are excellent at colonizing new areas as they reproduce by parthenogenesis (asexual cloning) a very rare method of reproduction in vertebrates. In captivity they are a communal species that thrive when kept in small groups, where they will interact to establish a social hierarchy.
