It maintains temperature by switching the heater on at full power until the target temperature is reached, then switching it off until heat is required again.

Please note: the Classic Pro Mat Thermostat is not suitable for use with light-emitting heat sources. The constant on/off switching would cause visual flickering and shorten the lifespan of both lamps and the thermostat itself.
