This small gecko species is native to the Wheatbelt area in Western Australia,
although tiny in size (3in / 10cm) it is one of the largest of all the
Diplodactylus species. Diplodactylus are a diverse genus of Australian geckos that
contains nearly 30 different species found across Australia in arid and semi-arid
environments. They are sometimes called Australian fat tailed geckos (not to be
confused with other species around the world also referred to as “fat tailed
geckos”). Their enlarged tail acts as a fat store for them, this enables them
to survive in often harsh challenging environments.
Similar in terms of care to Strophurus (Australian Spiny tailed geckos) species they are however more terrestrial in behaviour and certainly one for the specialist or enthusiast keeper. They will thrive in a semi-arid style set up but do appreciate a light misting daily, often spending the day sheltering inside of small tree hollows or behind bark they come out at dusk to hunt for small insects. These are very rare in UK collections; these are bred here in store. They are a sociable gecko and can be kept in small groups where they will often choose to shelter together during the day.
Like virtually all the animal we sell, these were bred right here in store, so you get all the benefits of buying direct from the breeder as well as from a renowned 5 Star licensed pet shop. What more could you want…
