Alocasia cucullata (Chinese Taro / Buddha Palm) is only known from human cultivation where it is widely grown across the Indian and East Asian subcontinent where it is often planted near temples as a sign of good luck and is sometimes used in traditional medicine. It will thrive in a high humidity environment and prefers moderate but indirect light levels. Like all alocasia it contains calcium oxalate in its leaves so should not be directly eaten by herbivorous species but is safe with all other species.
