Horned frogs (Ceratophrys spp) also called "Pac Man" frogs due to their resemblance to the 80s arcade character are native to Central and South America. They are opportunistic feeders that are often considered to be a mouth on legs they are able to eat prey almost the same size as themselves. Inhabiting temperate rainforest they thrive in high humidity. Often remaining motionless for days at a time they are true ambush predators. Due to inactivity care must be take not to overfeed these frogs in captivity.

Horned frogs are one of the easiest species of amphibian to keep and make an ideal first pet frog due to this. Horned frogs are available in an astounding variety of different colours/ morphs. Surinam Horned Frogs (Ceratophrys cornuta) also known as the Amazon horned frog are one of the largest horned frog species and prefer slightly cooler temperatures to the more commonly kept Cranwell’s Horned Frog. Surinam Horned frogs are one of the more difficult to breed species and rarely available in the hobby. Due to their Inactivity they don't require huge amounts of space and will thrive in a naturalistic or bioactive enclosure.
