Xenagama species are found in Northeastern Africa including Somalia and surrounding countries. They are closely related to Uromastyx / dab lizards and are also prolific burrowers. When threatened they will retreat into a burrow and use their tail to block the entrance. They are not often seen as captive bred individuals but when they are they make hardy pets and although initially difficult to pick up the are very tame once in your hand. They are active and alert throughout the day and make an interesting display species.

They prefer a dry environment but with moisture in the lower substrate layers which they will actively burrow down to. They are Insectivorous by nature but will consume a small amount of leafy greens when offered.

During breeding season (Spring) the males chin and upper chest will turn a vivid royal blue.

This is a mature proven breeding group that we have bred from since 2023 but we are now moving on to make space for other projects. If correctly cycled over winter they will continue to breed.
