Sakishima Grass Lizards (Takydromus dorsalis) also known as emerald long tailed lizards, are a small species of semi arboreal lizard that inhabits grasses and low lying shrubs in their native environment in the Southern Japanese Sakishima archipelago. Their partially prehensile tail helps them clambering around through grasses and thin twigs and they spend most of their time perched just off the floor. They are a relatively easy species to care for and do very well in bioactive and live planted enclosures and due to their diurnal nature activity pattern and inquisitive nature make an excellent display species. although they will readily feed from your fingers and may clamber onto your hands inside their enclosure we do not recommend handling this species as it can move fast when required and can easily shed its tail if it feels threatened. These are store bred and the adults are a firm staff favourite as they will often hop out the tank onto our hands and arms at feeding time, they are incredibly bold. This species is rare in the hobby and always in high demand.
