The Retail Store
Global Geckos first opened its doors back
in 2010 and within 5 years became a well-known and well respected name within
the reptile keeping hobby, after ten years we lead the pack. People ask how we
achieved this. Simple really, by always putting animal welfare before company
profits. Global Geckos is well known for three main reasons: staff knowledge
and qualifications, our enormous success with captive breeding and our
commitment to animal welfare.
Global Geckos is owned
and run by Will Thomas who holds both a degree in Zoology and a Research
Masters in Molecular Ecology. Retail manager Paul Wiley holds various NVQs and
National Diploma’s in animal care and management along with having spent over 2
decades working in the reptile trade including previously spending over a
decade as the livestock manager for the UK’s longest running reptile
wholesaler. The rest of our team all hold relevant NVQ’s and National Diplomas
in animal care disciplines.
Global Geckos houses one
of the largest and most diverse reptile breeding facilities anywhere in the UK.
Every year we breed over 1000 reptiles, encompassing over 40-50 different
species. As the name would suggest, we are well known for our huge array
of geckos ranging from Leopard Geckos and Crested Geckos right through to rare
Day Gecko species and various Australian Geckos. Aside from the wide variety of
geckos we have a well-deserved reputation for our Panther Chameleons for which
we are the largest breeders in the UK. The variety of snakes we produce
includes the usual favourites of Corn Snakes and Royal Pythons but also various
King Snakes, Milk Snakes, Rat Snakes and hognoses along with Australian Pythons,
Green Tree Pythons and a few other odd ball species.
When it comes to
reptiles that we haven’t bred in store we still maintain our ‘Only Captive
Bred’ policy. You can count on us to have a huge variety of species available;
at any given time, we have between 80-120 different species and over 500
reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates in stock.
In terms of Animal
Welfare, this is where we really stand out from the crowd. Not only do we
provide exceptional levels of animal welfare in store, but we also actively
educate and encourage others to follow our lead. We also support a local school
reptile club and in past years have given numerous talks to schools, scout
groups and educational organisations. Owner Will also spoke at the first joint AHH
(Advancing Herpetological Husbandry) and IHS (International Herpetological
Society) meeting at Drayton Manor Zoo with his talk on the ethical breeding of
reptiles in a commercial capacity. Leading by example we aim to dispel outdated
myths and help progress the hobby through education and compassion. These
qualities are what keep Global Geckos as an organisation at the cutting edge of
reptile keeping.
Along with our amazing
array of animals, we stock all the associated equipment you could ever need. We
maintain a policy of only stocking products that we would use ourselves, so you
won’t find any gimmicky or inferior products in store. Our extensive bioactive
ranges and live plant selection means you can find everything under one roof no
matter whether you are a beginner level reptile enthusiast or a seasoned
herpetoculturist.
We list as much of our
stock on the website as possible but due to the nature of the goods we can’t
always list all our products so why not pop into the retail store and check out
the full range. In store we also run an incredibly popular reptile holiday
boarding service. We host various in-store events and offers so to keep up to
date with what’s going on why not follow us on any of our social media channels
for regular updates.
