Emerald Tree Skinks (Lamprolepis smargadina) are an arboreal species native to south east Asia from Taiwan as far south as the Solomon Islands. They are a cosmopolitan species that are found in a variety of habitats including around human habitation along with forests, farmland and even coconut groves by the beach.

They are a popular pet species due to their alert and inquisitive nature and being an attractive diurnal species (daytime active), they are a prime candidate for living in bioactive display terrariums.

They are purely insectivorous by nature and will thrive on a diet of mixed crickets, locusts and cockroaches with occasional worms. They are a beginner level species that is not difficult to meet the environmental needs of.

During breeding season the female will lay 2 eggs at a time in leaf litter or buried in loose soil and in a well set up enclosure the eggs can even hatch in situ. They are not known for being cannibalistic and the babies can often grow up in the adults enclosure.

They can be fast and for this reason we don’t recommend regular handling but with persistence they can become very tame and will eat from your fingers and can be handled on occasion.
