Boa’s live in the humid
rainforests at low elevations and can be found on many of the offshore islands.
They are ambush predators hunting mainly mammals and birds where they would hunt
both at ground level as well as up in the trees as they are excellent at
climbing. They are a strong powerful snake for their size and able to overpower
prey that similar sized species may struggle with.
They can be short tempered and
defensive when young, often letting out a loud warning hiss while arching back
ready to strike. With confident handling and patience they do become very tame
as adults and are often one of the most commonly used species for snake handling
displays and with animal encounter experiences. Due to their size when adult,
and temperament when young they are perhaps best for an intermediate keeper
rather than beginner, but dedicated beginners have opted for Boas as a first
pet snake for years so with the correct mindset and large enough housing there
is nothing to stop them being a beginner species.
Boa’s have been selectively
bred for a multitude of colour morphs over the years and this “sunglow” boa is the
product of mixing both the albino gene and the Hypomelanistic gene’s together
to produce an animal that as it matures will end up with a white background and
bright pink markings.
*There are multiple lines of
albino, this is a Kahl strain albino
