Fijian banded Iguana’s are a small brightly coloured iguana species from the
Islands of Fiji in the South Pacific. Their small size and brilliant green
colouration make them highly desirable; however, they come with a high price
tag due to being endangered in the wild. Their decline in wild population size
is due to competition from introduced goats, and predation from feral cats as
well habitat loss. They are a highly prized species in the hobby and captive
breeding has become more prevalent thanks to a few dedicated European breeders;
particularly one in Austria who has the largest collection of Fiji Iguanas in
Europe. The individuals that we have for sale are bred here in store from
unrelated parents we purchased over 10 years ago from this Austrian breeder.
Males are green and blue banded while females are predominantly green with occasional
white banding or spotting.
Although there are 4 species of Fiji Iguana; Brachylophus bulabula the
more common B.fasciatus and a few individuals of B.vitiensis
are the only species present in captivity in the UK. The fourth species B.gau

Brachylophus
bulabula sometimes
called the central Fijian Banded Iguana is native to the wet forests of Ovalau,
Kadavu and Viti Levu in the central Fijian island archipelago. Here they occur
at elevations between 200-500m above sea level. They will eat the leaves fruits
and flowers from many plant species, but hibiscus along with banana and papaya
are some of their preferred food sources. They will occasionally
opportunistically eat insects.
Although relatively easy to care for and full of personality they are not recommended to complete beginners due to their requirement for a large enclosure. They are predominantly herbivorous and will feed on a wide variety of leafy greens as well as some fruit. Insects can be offered on occasion particularly to youngsters.
Like virtually all the animals we sell, these were bred right here in store, so you get all the benefits of buying direct from the breeder as well as from a renowned 5 Star licensed pet shop. What more could you want…
