Carpet pythons are extremely variable due to their wide geographic range stretching from Australia to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Semi arboreal in nature, they prey on birds and bats as well as small rodents. Often nippy as hatchlings with patient handling they can tame down well.

Juveniles are duller and the colour develops as they age, usually fully developed in colour at 18 to 24months of age. They measure 5 to 7 foot (1.5 to 2.1m) as adults with females usually being larger than males.
