Northern Blue Tongue Skinks (Tiliqua scincoides intermedia) are native to the Northern part of Australia. Their range extends from the Kimberley region of Western Australia, across the Northern Territories as far as the Carpentaria Shire of Queensland but only along the northern edge of these three regions where there are areas of coastal forest.

Blue tongue Skinks mostly inhabit lowland forest environments but can often also be found in amongst areas of human habitation. They are opportunistic omnivores eating everything from insects to small vertebrates and carrion along with plant matter. They are not the fastest moving species, so they often prefer slower moving prey such as snails. They are strictly terrestrial, and their short stubby legs make climbing all but impossible for this heavy bodied species.

Blue Tongue skinks are a very popular pet species as they are comparatively easy to care for and will eat almost anything and there are a number of very good specialist foods on the market for them such as Arcadia Omnigold and Repashy Bluey Buffet. They do require a slightly humid environment to ensure that they don’t have trouble shedding but are generally a very hardy species well suited to beginner keepers. They are a very personable species packed with character and are excellent for handling. Alongside Bearded dragons they are the other top species we recommend for a lot of first time reptile owners.

Like virtually all of the animals we sell, these northern Blue Tongue Skinks were bred right here in store from some high colour adults that we have been breeding from for a number of years. They have excellent temperaments, and you are welcome to meet the parents here in store.
