D. azures originate from the rainforests of Suriname and Brazil where they are often found close to water sources. Dart Frogs gain their toxins from their diet and are therefore non toxic in captivity. This species is one of the most sought after in the hobby, being both bright and bold by nature. However they can sometimes show territorial aggression to one another as adults.

Although non toxic in captivity they are very delicate and should not be handled. They do make a fantastic display species.
