Day geckos can be found in East Africa and some south pacific islands but the vast majority are native to Madagascar. They range in size from less than 10cm to over 30cm; one extinct species (Phelsuma gigas) from Rodriguez Island near Mauritius was one of the largest gecko species ever known. Day geckos are unique in behaviour as like the name suggests they are diurnal (active during the day) unlike most geckos which are most active during the night (nocturnal) or at dawn and dusk (crepuscular).
Gold Dust Day Geckos are native to Madagascar and reach a total length of around 10cm. When Adult they are green in colour with yellow speckles on the neck and upper back, giving them their common name. They have reddish brown linear markings on the back and snout. As with most Day Geckos, a planted naturalistic set up with great UV lighting is the best method of housing them. They feed on insects and some soft fruit.
The image shows a juvenile, the colouration described above will develop with age.
